POST DE TESTE DE TRADUÇÃO AUTOMÁTICA
Em poucas palavras, o sistema permite que o usuário realize traduções totalmente automáticas ou traduções interativas – neste caso, o sistema traduz o texto sentença por sentença, permitindo que o usuário modifique as escolhas do programa. Seus dicionários (tanto gerais quanto específicos) são bastante amplos e podem ser personalizados. Aos termos dos dicionários estão associadas ainda regras lingüísticas (morfológicas, sintáticas, e relacionadas ao uso da língua, de forma mais restrita) e determinados atributos sintático-semânticos – sempre passíveis de alteração por parte do usuário.
Como componentes adicionais, o sistema oferece um programa tradutor de páginas em HTML e um aplicativo para a tradução de mensagens eletrônicas e de conversas on-line através da Internet.
Como restrições, o programa nota que produz “versões preliminares de tradução” [Guia do usuário] e recomenda a preparação do texto de entrada para que a qualidade do texto traduzido seja melhor. Esta consiste de: evitar expressões idiomáticas; utilizar pronomes antes dos verbos, ainda que não pareça necessário para a compreensão do texto; (em inglês) não omitir palavras como that, which, who e whom; (em inglês) não contrair os verbos is e has (ou seja, utilizar ’s apenas para indicar possessivo); manter sentenças simples e claras; evitar a voz passiva; não separar phrasal verbs; utilizar a ordem padrão dos componentes das sentenças e executar o verificador ortográfico antes de submeter um texto para tradução. Não há nenhuma restrição específica para o português.
